Diehl Aviation is redefining aircraft cabin design with its eDecor technology—a first-of-its-kind, customizable decor solution that enhances airline branding and passenger experience like never before. Utilizing advanced lightweight electronic paper (E-ink) technology, eDecor enables cabin surfaces to dynamically change color and design without continuous power consumption, offering new levels of flexibility, efficiency, and aesthetics for modern cabin interiors.

The lightweight electronic ink (E-Ink) technology ensures that once a design is set, it remains stable without generating heat, making it safe, more sustainable, and highly efficient unlike traditional static cabin decorations. Whether for individual airline branding, flight-phase adjustments, code-sharing branding, or creating specific in-flight atmospheres, eDecor provides flexibility and unmatched adaptability to transform the passenger experience. The design concept for eDecor was developed in collaboration with Design Investment, ensuring an innovative approach of modern aircraft cabin aesthetics.

With seamless integration across multiple surfaces—including sidewalls, dividers, seat row numbering, and illuminated cabin icons—eDecor opens up entirely new possibilities for passenger engagement and airline branding. Controlled via the Flight Attendant Panel, where pre-defined scenarios can be activated at the push of a button, allowing airlines to customize cabin aesthetics in real-time.

The proven E-Ink technology behind eDecor is similar to that used in e-readers and electronic price tags. Tiny color-changing microcapsules embedded in the film adjust based on applied electrical signals, allowing for instantaneous and high-resolution design changes. Unlike traditional cabin surfaces that require physical replacements for updates, eDecor can help to reduce material usage and simply maintenance processes.

Diehl Aviation has developed working prototypes and is proving their airworthiness. The first full-scale mock-up of this innovative technology is unveiled at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2025. Designed for both line-fit and retrofit applications, eDecor represents a major leap forward in modern cabin customization, allowing airlines to keep their interiors fresh, flexible, and aligned with their evolving branding strategies.

Jörg Schuler, CEO of Diehl Aviation, states: "With eDecor, we are transforming how airlines approach cabin design. For the first time, carriers can seamlessly adapt their interiors mid-flight. This innovation opens up new possibilities for branding, operational flexibility, and passenger engagement."

As the aviation industry strives for greater efficiency, more sustainability, and passenger-centric solutions, Diehl Aviation’s eDecor is paving the way for the next generation of intelligent aircraft interiors.
