Heat pumps are considered a key technology for climate-friendly heating. However, their efficiency crucially depends on control technology. This is exactly where Diehl Controls comes in with an innovative power package that supports heat pump manufacturers in their leap to a new generation of technology.
The core of the power package is a state-of-the-art inverter that controls compressors precisely and energy-efficiently. With a power range from 2.5 to over 11 kW, it covers the requirements of various heat pump sizes. The fully integrated active power factor correction (PFC) maximizes power draw from the grid and eliminates reactive power losses, reducing the load on the power grid. The single-phase inverter uses innovative Smart-Current-Path (SIP) topology, reducing conduction losses by 20%. In combination with WBG (Wide-Bandgap) semiconductors such as silicon carbide, the total losses of the frequency converter can even be reduced by up to 50%.
Additional features of all inverters include an integrated EMC filter to reduce electromagnetic emissions, data tracking and storage for system monitoring, and motor protection and functional safety against overpressure, overtemperature, and overcurrent. These and other functions were developed at Diehl Controls and tested in their own EMC absorption chamber, among other facilities. The inverters also meet the necessary safety requirements for use with A2L/A3 refrigerants such as propane.

The inverter's application software is tested with partner companies and continuously developed further.
